Steve Helm joined the Valparaiso University women’s basketball coaching staff in August 2010 as an assistant coach and will be on the sidelines with the Crusaders for his third season in 2012-13.

Helm took over the Crusaders’ recruiting coordinator position prior to his second year with the program.  Helm also assists with scouting and helps to coach the post players.  He was also responsible for all of the team’s travel during his first season at Valpo.

Previously, Helm coached at Ancilla College in Plymouth, Ind., for six years, the last five as the school’s men’s head coach.  During his stay with the Chargers, Helm coached a national Coca-Cola All-American, three distinguished All-Americans and five Academic All-Americans.

Helm was a Third Team All-American in 1998 at Montana State University-Northern, as well as the Frontier Conference Most Valuable Player that same season.  He went on to play for the ABA Indiana Legends in 2002. He earned his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2001 from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn.
