The Crusaders women’s basketball program has had eight student-athletes go on to play professionally, including Marlous Nieuwveen, the first Crusader to play in the WNBA.  Most recently, Nieuwveen played for Faenza in Italy.  Nieuwveen made her WNBA Debut with the Los Angeles Sparks on May 21, 2005 at Seattle.

Nieuwveen’s Valpo highlights included:

  •  First Team All Mid-Con in 2001-2002
  • All Freshman Team member in 1998-1999
  • 6th all-time in scoring (1,217 points)
  • 6th all-time in rebounding (657 rebounds)
  • 5th all-time in blocked shots (81 blocks)
  • A member of Valpo’s WNIT quarterfinal team
