Playing the Best
Valparaiso University has played in one of the nation’s premier mid-major conferences, the Horizon League, since 2007. The Horizon League is one of the nation’s most competitive leagues top-to-bottom, with no easy contests within the 16-game league schedule. Immediately upon entering the league, Valpo established itself as a competitor in the standings, finishing in fourth place in 2008-09.
Valparaiso University competes in the Horizon League in all Division I sports except football, which competes in the Pioneer League.
The women’s basketball team has played at least two games against ranked opponents in each of their last five seasons, including in 2008 when the Crusaders beat No. 21/23 Purdue University at the ARC. In 2012-13, the Crusaders have four games scheduled against schools ranked in the preseason polls. Valpo is slated to play Duke and Louisville, both of which entered the season in the preseason Top 10.
