Michael Woodson joined the Crusader men’s tennis coaching staff for the 2012-13 season after concluding a three-year career on the court for Valpo.  Woodson has been instrumental in the Crusaders’ recruiting efforts, helping to bring in a freshman class ranked #22 among mid-major programs nationwide for the 2013-14 campaign.

Over his three seasons with the Crusaders, Woodson won 22 singles matches and 15 doubles matches.  He split time between fifth and sixth singles, while appearing mostly at third doubles for the Brown and Gold.  Following his junior season, Woodson was named the Crusaders’ Most Improved Player.

Woodson was recognized with the Bill Steinbrecher Sportsmanship Award at the conclusion of his senior year, presented to a male student-athlete who has best exemplified integrity and sportsmanship while representing Valparaiso University.  He also was the recipient of the athletic department’s Laurel Award, which honors the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
