Tough competition – in the spotlight – is part of what Valpo basketball provides to its players and fans. The 2013-14 schedule features plenty of opportunities for the Crusaders to test themselves, as Valpo will play nine non-league games against 20-win teams from a season ago, as well as 18 games in all against postseason squads from last season.
Valparaiso consistently challenges itself against some of the nation’s best teams. In addition to playing in the always-tough Horizon League, the Crusaders have become well-known for taking on top teams on the road, at home, and in tournaments and other neutral settings in non-league play.
Over the last seven years, the Crusaders have played 21 games against teams ranked in the top-25, competing in at least two such games each season – last season featured games against ranked squads from New Mexico and Michigan State. Valpo also hasn’t been afraid to take on the best of the best, either. The Crusaders had a five-year stretch in which they faced off against a team atop the nation’s polls.
