Tough competition – in the spotlight – is part of what Valpo basketball provides to its players and fans. The 2012-13 schedule features four NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including games with Murray State, Saint Louis and New Mexico.
Valparaiso University consistently challenges itself against some of the nation’s best teams. In addition to playing in the always-tough Horizon League, the Crusaders have become well-known for taking on top teams on the road, at home, and in tournaments and other neutral settings in nonconference play. In 2010-2011, the Crusaders faced off against a pair of top 25 opponents, and they did the same in 2011-2012, including a trip to then-No. 3 Ohio State.
That continues a trend for the Crusaders, who have played 17 games against top 25 foes, including 10 against top 10 teams, over the last five years. Valpo also hasn’t been afraid to take on the best of the best, either. The Crusaders had a five-year stretch in which they faced off against a team atop the nation’s polls.
