Academics
Success on the court isn’t the only goal for the Crusader men’s basketball program, as Valpo puts a strong emphasis on being champions in the classroom as well. The Valpo men’s basketball team takes its academic success seriously, putting in a number of hours outside the classroom with tutors and in study tables. The extra effort has paid off, as 10 student-athletes had a 3.0 in the Fall 2011 semester, while a pair of current Crusaders were nominated for Academic All-District recognition and four players were named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. In addition, 2012 Horizon League player of the year Ryan Broekhoff was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll for two semesters last year, for holding a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better.
One-on-one mentoring from faculty and small class sizes are among the many strengths of a Valpo education. The University offers professional education with Colleges of Engineering, Business and Nursing, with a foundation in the liberal arts. More than 90 percent of annual graduates find employment or enter graduate school within six months of earning their degrees – further proving the quality of learning found at Valparaiso University.
